Why this matters
NCLEX-RN® rhythm questions are nursing-priority questions. A strip matters because of perfusion, symptoms, and the action it triggers—not because the waveform has a memorable nickname.
A step-by-step method
- Assess pulse, blood pressure, mental status, chest discomfort, breathing, and perfusion.
- Determine atrial and ventricular rate and regularity.
- Look for one P before each QRS and one QRS after each P.
- Measure PR and QRS using the scale supplied.
- Classify stable versus unstable and follow the current emergency algorithm.
