Check your nursing regulator before ordering a credential service. TruMerit, formerly CGFNS International, offers several products with different purposes. A CES Professional Report, the Credential Verification Service for New York State and VisaScreen are not interchangeable. The relevant board determines what evidence it accepts; a service provider authenticates or evaluates records within the service ordered, but does not issue the state nursing licence.

Start with the recipient, not the product name
Write down who needs the report and why. An education review for initial state licensure is a different task from federal health-care worker screening. Copy the exact product name from the current board instructions and check whether a provider is required or whether alternatives are allowed. For New York, use its specific foreign-graduate pathway instead of assuming a general CES report is sufficient.
Understand the three commonly confused services
CES Professional is a credentials evaluation report used for professional purposes. CVS for New York verifies credentials for that state’s process. VisaScreen addresses a separate health-care worker screening purpose and includes requirements beyond an exam application. Use each service’s current description and recipient instructions; the fact that one provider offers all three does not mean buying one satisfies the others.
Track documents by destination
Your school or licensing authority may need to send records directly to the evaluator or board. Keep a row for every recipient rather than one tick box labelled “transcript done.” Save official request forms and dispatch references. If a school has closed or cannot issue a required record, ask the recipient for its accepted alternative process rather than creating a replacement yourself.
