Nursing Licence Verification for NCLEX: INC, NRTS and State Nursing Councils
Official sources checked September 22, 2026.
Quick answer
INC explains that NRTS enrolment and NUID are not themselves a licence or registration issued by INC. State Nursing Registration Councils hold the registration/licensing role. Identify the authority responsible for your record and follow the receiving regulator or evaluator’s verification instructions.
At a glance
| INC/NRTS | National tracking; NUID is not itself a practice licence |
|---|---|
| Relevant State Nursing Council | Registration, renewal and requested verification |
| School/university | Education and transcript evidence |
| Evaluator/regulator | Sets the report, recipient and submission rules |
Who sends what?
School or university records establish education; registration verification establishes your professional registration history. INC’s NRTS FAQ distinguishes national tracking from the State Nursing Council’s legal registration and renewal functions. Do not substitute an NUID screenshot for a verification the recipient requires directly from a council. If you hold or previously held registration with more than one authority, check whether the destination needs evidence from each.
Make the request specific to the recipient
Before applying, confirm the service name, destination organisation, form, applicant reference and permitted delivery method. Use your council’s current official process and verify the charge shown there. Fees and workflows can differ between councils; this guide does not publish one nationwide verification fee or a guaranteed turnaround. Ask who handles records if you moved states, changed your name or hold reciprocal registration, and keep the reply with your application tracker.
Expired registration and missing records
Clarify renewal and verification with the council and tell the receiving regulator your actual status. An expired record must not be represented as active. Track dispatch and receipt separately: “sent” does not establish that a recipient accepted the document. When a record is missing, identify the exact authority, form and date involved before paying for another request. Keep original evidence secure and use the official correspondence channel.
Plan your next steps
- Identify every relevant registration authority.
- Read the destination’s verification requirement.
- Obtain the correct recipient form and reference.
- Confirm council service, fee and current instructions.
- Submit accurate registration details.
- Track dispatch, receipt and any rejection reason.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sending NRTS enrolment instead of requested verification.
- Assuming all councils use the same fee.
- Confusing school transcripts with licence evidence.
Follow the recipient’s sender, form and delivery instructions.

Common questions
Do I need an Indian nursing licence before I can apply for NCLEX?
Check the destination’s requirements for home-country registration and verification. Accurately report whether you have been registered and request evidence from the authority that holds that record. An INC NRTS enrolment or NUID is not itself a licence to practise.
Does my State Nursing Council registration need to be active for NCLEX?
Confirm renewal and verification requirements with the relevant State Nursing Council and ask the receiving regulator how it treats your current status. An expired registration must be disclosed accurately; it is not something this guide can convert into automatic approval or rejection.
How do I verify my Indian nursing licence for a U.S. board?
Identify the authority that issued or holds your registration, then follow its verification process and the board or evaluator’s recipient instructions. Check the form, reference number, delivery method and current fee. Your school supplies education evidence; NRTS enrolment does not replace council verification.
